what's the deal with all the singing and dancing in Indian movies

I don't watch much indian cinema, but the few movies I've seen they all involve singing and dancing.

I mean, what's the deal with the singing every ten minutes?

    make a search in youtube using "bollyhood" (indian's hollywood is called using a B in the name) and you will see a lot of singing
